The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has honored several first responders and good Samaritans who helped save the life of a 20-year-old man who was electrocuted last month.
On the afternoon of July 10, 911 dispatch received a call about the incident at the Pipestone Lake Boat Launch. Lincoln White-Day had been preparing the mast on a sailboat when it connected with a power line. 911 Dispatch Supervisor Cassidie Pointer took the call and advised bystanders Tyler and Nate to continue CPR on White-Day while an ambulance was sent. Lincoln tells us it’s thanks to that CPR that he’s alive today.
“My recovery has been miraculous,” White-Day said. “The doctor said that there was over a 95% chance that I wouldn’t be here, especially with my mental faculties because my brain didn’t get oxygen for 20 seconds. So the fact that Nate and Tyler were there, like I said, they’re my angels. They came in and administered CPR right away.”
White-Day says it looks like he now has the rest of his life to live, and he’s planning to go into the foreign service to tour the world helping people.
The 911 callers, Tyler Baham and Nate Tatro, told us they’re glad they could help.
“I sure am happy that he’s okay,” Baham said.
“We started off as strangers when we first met because of a dire situation, but I’m sure that we’ll grow into being great family and friends after this, and I’m glad that we could be there to support and save him when he needed it,” Tatro said.
Berrien County Board of Commissioners Chair Mac Elliott said during Thursday’s meeting all the parties involved in saving White-Day are owed a debt of gratitude and he has a feeling that will lead to a lifelong bond. Honored at the meeting were Pointer, Great Lakes Rescue Medical first responder Matthew Quinn, Medic 1 paramedic Kahler Johansen, EMT Melinda Reeves, Baham, and Tatro.
White-Day told us he’s just happy to still be here.
