State lawmakers back in Lansing to work on the budget

State lawmakers are back in Lansing with more budget talks at the top of the agenda.

There are negotiations on two fronts — school funding and a roads plan.

Republican state Representative Joseph Aragona from Macomb County is anxious to get back to work and get something to the governor.

“The House passed a $3.2 billion roads plan without raising any revenue,” Argona said. “I think the Senate’s probably going to go a little bit different direction and eventually come up with something where they probably raise revenues. I’d rather not do that. But eventually I’m really hoping we get a roads plan and we obviously we still got to pass a budget. So those are probably the biggest things that we got going on in Lansing.”

The House also has a different plan from the Democratic-controlled Senate when it comes to the education budget. For school districts across Michigan, it’s crucial to get something done because their new fiscal year started July 1.
