Voters in Detroit will decide between two candidates for mayor in November. They are Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield and Pastor Solomon Kinloch.

After a primary, Sheffield thanked her supporters Tuesday night and said the victory is not hers, but the city’s.

And for every college graduate, every young professional who told me they wanted to stay in Detroit if only they could see a future, this is our moment,” Sheffield said.

Sheffield was first elected to city council in 2013 when she was 26. She was elected council president in 2022. Kinloch ran on jobs and affordable housing.
