Lorraine Kay Sellers, a woman who was filled with love and generosity, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2024, in South Bend, Indiana, at the age of 83. Born on March 5, 1941, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to the late John and Edna (Lidke) Stowe, Lori’s life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, her passion for teaching, and her love for the simple joys of life.
Lori grew up in a close-knit family and graduated from Niles High School in 1959, carrying with her the values of hard work and compassion that would define her life. After graduation, she embarked on a fulfilling career as a preschool teacher, touching the lives of countless children with her warmth and patience.
In her personal life, Lori was the cherished wife of the late John Sellers, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Kelly Shepard and son, Jeffrey (Jessica) Sellers, and was also given the gift of her step daughter Tracey (Jerry) Bosson. Lori’s legacy continued to blossom with her beloved grandchildren; Whitney Aitkins, Jordan Shepard, Nicholas Peiffer, Cameron Peiffer, Kimberly Sellers, Karley Sellers, Dustin Bosson, and Bretland Bosson and great-grandchildren, Emily Schieber and Molly Mow. She was a dear sister to the late Suzanne Low and is survived by her sister Gayla (Willis) Fraser.
Lori’s life was a testament to the power of selflessness. Known affectionately as Grandma Honey and Grandma Hoot, she had a special gift for making each family member feel loved and cherished. Her generosity extended beyond her family, touching all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Her interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. Lori had an eye for beauty and loved to decorate, especially during the holidays, transforming her home into a festive sanctuary. She was an avid sewer, often creating beautiful pieces for her family and friends. Lori’s stitch club was a source of joy and camaraderie, where she and her fellow members shared their love for the craft.
Traveling was one of Lori’s passions, and she especially enjoyed driving to new destinations. The Lake House in Manistee, Michigan, was a cherished retreat where she spent many happy summers with her nieces and nephews, Rachelle (Rick) Jenkin, Kimberly (Jack) Porlier, and Don Bailey. The Smokey Mountains held a special place in her heart, a symbol of the tranquility and beauty she sought in life.
Lori’s love for the outdoors was evident in the care she took of her flower garden, a vibrant and colorful space that reflected her spirit. The three Stowe sisters, Lori, Suzanne, and Gayla, always cherished their time together, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
In the words of Mother Teresa, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Lori embodied this sentiment, living a life marked by loving acts and a generous heart. She was a woman who found joy in the happiness of others, and her presence was a comfort to all who knew her.
Those wishing to make a memorial donation in honor of Lori have been asked to consider the Humane Society, 2506 Grape Rd, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
In accordance with Lori’s wishes cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery with her beloved husband.
