Old National Bank has made a $10,000 donation to the Salvation Army of Niles.

The bank announced Thursday it’s contributing a total of $55,000 to non-profits around Southwest Michigan and South Bend.

The donation for the Salvation Army will be used for its Feeding His Sheep program. It’s a backpack outreach program seeking to provide balanced, nutritional meals to school children in the area over the weekends. The Salvation Army loads the backpacks with healthy foods for the kids and then delivers them.

The Salvation Army identifies eligible children via their schools. Each week, the child will receive a bag filled with breakfast, lunch, and dinner components for Saturday and Sunday. They also get periodic information about health, nutrition, and Salvation Army services.

Old National Bank’s Mark Dobberstein says the non-profits it’s supporting “are providing such valuable services in our communities.”
