An Indiana man is dead following a crash involving a deer in Cass County Thursday.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Department says it happened just before 7 p.m. near Cassopolis Road and Bullhand Street in Calvin Township.
20-year-old Alyssa Handschu of Osceola, Indiana was northbound on Cassopolis Road when her vehicle struck a deer. The deer was then propelled toward a southbound vehicle, crashing through its windshield. This caused the second vehicle to leave the road.
The driver, 67-year-old Daniel Haskett of Elkhart, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say both drivers were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not involved in the crash.
