Silver Beach Carousel to display LEGO art from local youths

Young LEGO enthusiasts are being invited to submit creations to the Silver Beach Center in St. Joseph for a special exhibit that will be going up this month.

Silver Beach Carousel President Suz Schalon tells us the venue wanted to give young artists a chance to show the community what they can do.

“Kids love LEGO, kids of all ages, let’s put it that way,” Schalon said. “But the opportunity to create something, whether it’s a build or something of your own creativity and bring that in and to have other people see it, it’s so unique.”

Starting now through February 23, the Silver Beach Center will take up to 150 entries of LEGO builds to be placed at the carousel for all to enjoy through April 7.

“So they put their build down and then we put their name and their age and their city with it, and then they also have an opportunity to come on the 28th. That’s our Builder’s Bash, and we literally roll out the red carpet when they come and have a fun night.”

As part of the Builders’ Bash, everyone will get free, unlimited carousel rides.

Schalon says the West Michigan LEGO Users Group will also put up a display at the carousel March 2 and March 3 from noon to 5. They’ve been brought in before and have displayed LEGO recreations of local landmarks.

All LEGO-theme events are free for anyone to enjoy, but to submit LEGO art, you must be between 5 and 18 years of age. You can submit creations for display right here.
