The Allegan County Register of Deeds Office says it’s been setting records for passport applications.

The office hit an all-time high number of applications in 2023. Registrar of Deed Bob Genetski says it helped 565 people obtain their passports in 2023, 31% higher than the previous record of 392 set in 2022.

This marks the third year in a row that the number of applications through the office has increased.

Genetski says during COVID, the office hit a ten year low of 129 applicants. Those numbers more than doubled in 2021 to 263, then increased 33% with 392 applications in 2022 before last year’s 565.

Genetski released the numbers as he prepares his annual report. He says one of the top things people say when they come to the office for a passport is that his staff is friendly, and he’s extremely proud of that.
