A California truck driver could get life in prison for a chase and series of crashes last week on I-94. The Berrien County Prosecutor’s office says 38-year-old Ronald Jiles, of Stockton, California, faces eight charges stemming from the Thursday morning incident. Police say his semi began striking other vehicles on the highway in Indiana, and continued doing so after it crossed into Michigan. Police had to shoot out a tire on the semi before Stockton finally got off the highway at John Beers Road in Stevensville. His truck jackknifed there, leading to a closure of John Beers for most of the rest of the day. Now, Jiles is charged with assault with intent to murder, which carries up to life in prison. He’s also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, assaulting or resisting a police officer, injuring or harassing a police dog, felony firearm, fleeing and eluding, and reckless driving. Jiles remains in the Berrien County Jail and was arraigned Tuesday.
