There’s a new member of the Lake Michigan College Board of Trustees.

The board voted this week to appoint Alloyd Blackmon to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Joan Smith in January.

LMC says Blackmon currently serves as chief executive officer of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Southwest Michigan. Prior to her nonprofit leadership role, Blackmon retired from Whirlpool in Benton Harbor in 2020 after a 32-year career. She also manages the Benton Harbor Promise, a scholarship program.

Blackmon previously served on the Lake Michigan College Foundation Board of Directors and currently serves on the boards of Mosaic CCDA, the Benton Harbor Education Foundation, and the Horizon Bank Southwest Michigan Advisory Board.

Blackmon says it means a great deal to her to be able to serve Lake Michigan College, which she believes is vital to the region.
