South Haven man facing sexual assault charge after incident this week

A South Haven man is in the Van Buren County Jail on sexual assault and other charges after an incident in the city this week.

The South Haven Police Department says the victim appeared in-person at the department on Thursday morning to report the assault. It allegedly occurred in a home in the 1,000 block of Phoenix Street around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim said the 26-year-old suspect pointed a gun at them, physically assaulted them, and committed a sexual assault.

The South Haven Police Department and the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department later executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home while he was arrested during a traffic stop. He’s now charged with assault with intent to commit a felony, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, felony firearm, fourth degree criminal sexual conduct, domestic violence, and assault and battery.

The suspect remains in the Van Buren County Jail pending arraignment.
