Coming up next weekend in downtown St. Joseph will be a chance for anyone to help support the work of Chikaming Open Lands.
Wanderlust Outfitters, an outdoor apparel store at 120 State Street, will be holding two giveback days for COL. Chikaming Open Lands spokesperson Bethany Ballard tells us they appreciate the support.
“They have committed to donating a portion of all of their in-store sales to Chikaming Open Lands to support our mission,” Ballard said. “So anybody who shops in the store either Saturday or Sunday, they’ll be also supporting COL.”
5% of all purchases next Saturday or Sunday, April 11 and 12, will go to Chikaming Open Lands. Ballard says Wanderlust also hosts classes and leads people on hikes around the region, so they’re more than just a store, and they align with COL’s mission.
“The fact that they are willing to host this weekend and give a percentage of their sales to COL really speaks highly of their values and their commitment to supporting the community and other organizations that kind of align with what they’re trying to do. So we’re really, really grateful for that.”
Chikaming Open Lands owns more than 20 nature preserves where anyone and hike and enjoy nature around Berrien County. It suggests picking up some binoculars, hiking shoes, or backpacks during the giveback weekend to help it protect the local forests, prairies, wetlands, and farmland that make Berrien County so special.
