The Lincoln Township Fire Chief is on unpaid leave pending a discussion among township trustees.
The township has confirmed to us Chief Brandon Chiarello is on leave and that trustees will discuss his final status with Lincoln Township during a closed session Thursday. In the meantime, one of the firefighters is serving as acting chief.
The specific reason for Chiarello’s suspension hasn’t been released. He recently urged trustees to approve a multi-phase plan to expand the Lincoln Township Fire Department to full-time operations. It would have included the creation of a new millage to pay for the hiring of additional firefighters.
Trustees indicated support for the idea in February, but more recently, Township Manager Kacey Dominguez said the township is now looking at a scaled back proposal, and at a slower pace.
The township board of trustees will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 26 to discuss Chiarello’s status.
