Cass County says additional damage assessments from this month’s storms and tornado are planned for Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

The storms on March 6 caused substantial damage to homes and businesses across Southwest Michigan, leading to the death of a 12-year-old boy in Edwardsburg.

Cass County Emergency Management now says it’s completed an initial review and has launched a Joint Preliminary Damage Assessment to take a closer look at the impact. Assessment teams made up of local leaders, the State of Michigan, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the U.S. Small Business Administration will travel through affected neighborhoods over the next two days looking things over. Residents may see them documenting damage from public roads or briefly approaching properties, but homeowners don’t need to take any action.

Emergency Management says the information gathered will help determine whether additional disaster assistance could become available for communities working to recover from the storms.
