Lincoln Township seeking committee to study CGA proposal

Lincoln Township and Stevensville will be taking a little time to study questions surrounding the proposed formation of a new chamber and community growth alliance in the area.

Speaking to trustees this week, Lincoln Township Manager Kacey Dominguez said the budget for the new fiscal year includes $30,000 for the hiring of a director for that CGA, which is half the township’s expected yearly contribution. She said with the position still a bit “nebulous” in its concept, she wants to form a committee with the village to study it out.

Dominguez told us the committee will consist of both township and village representatives.

I think we’re taking our time to really figure out what we want this person to do, both in the township and the village, before moving forward,” Dominguez said.

Is there a timeline?

I would like to take the next two months to have a committee to really paint — get a good picture of what this position would look like and then come back to the board at that time.”

Dominguez said once the committee has figured the issue out, Lincoln Township could contribute the budgeted $30,000 to the CGA for half the year and then come back with 100% next year. Or, she said the board could decide to use the funds for another project.

The Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber has encouraged the township and village to team up for the CGA, noting the success the model has shown in other communities.
