A 58-year-old Plainwell man is in jail following a police chase and drug arrest in Van Buren County this week.
Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Abbott says a deputy attempted a traffic stop on Red Arrow Highway near County Road 652 in Antwerp Township for a motor vehicle violation.
The driver fled westbound at speeds reaching about 80 miles per hour before turning north onto County Road 652 and into a subdivision. Police say the vehicle slowed to under 10 miles per hour while driving through the neighborhood, and then returned to County Road 652 before coming to a stop.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Deputies say a search of the man and his vehicle uncovered a large amount of methamphetamine, along with packaging materials and scales.
The suspect was lodged at the Van Buren County Jail on charges including fleeing and eluding, possession with intent to deliver meth, driving with a suspended license, and having no insurance.
