Evelyn V. Watts, a beacon of faith and kindness, was called home to her Lord and Savior on February 1, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on July 30, 1934, in Union City, Tennessee, to the late Willie and Pearl Lee (Boyd) Caldwell, Evelyn’s life was a testament to the power of love and devotion.
Evelyn’s early years in Union City laid a firm foundation for the remarkable woman she would become. Her Christian faith was nurtured from a young age and would become the cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and decisions through the decades.
In 1972, Evelyn’s heart led her to Niles, Michigan, where she married her beloved husband, Everette Watts. Together, they built a life filled with joy and purpose until Everette’s passing. Evelyn also endured the loss of her son, Everette James Greer, and her sister, Barbara Dixon, with the grace and strength that characterized her entire life.
Despite these losses, Evelyn’s family continued to be a source of immense joy. She is lovingly remembered by her two daughters, Antoinette Greer-Borden of Niles and Denise Greer of Fishers, Indiana; her son, Dwight Greer of Los Angeles, California; thirteen grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Jeanette Beckette of Jackson, Mississippi.
Professionally, Evelyn was respected and cherished in her role as the director of First Choice Assisted Living in Niles, where she served until her well-earned retirement. Her work was more than a job; it was a ministry of caring for others that reflected her Christian values.
Evelyn’s commitment to her faith was evident in her active membership at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Niles. She served her church community with a generous heart, particularly in hospitality, where she made everyone feel welcome and loved.
Her interests outside of work and church were varied and fulfilling. Evelyn’s garden was a place of tranquility and beauty, reflecting her love for nurturing life. She had a keen eye for treasures, often found while perusing garage sales and collecting antiques. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and she took great pleasure in cooking and baking for those she loved. Traveling brought her new experiences, but it was the time spent with her family that she cherished most.
Evelyn Watts lived a life emblematic of the words loving, faith-filled, and kind. She touched the lives of many, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and service. Her unwavering faith and the love she shared will continue to inspire those who knew her.
