A South Haven couple is helping to further improve a park that they’ve already done much to establish.
The South Haven City Council on Monday will consider accepting the donation of a new sign for Ellen Avery Park from Ruth and Ron Wiser, which will acknowledge their contributions for maintenance of the park at the end of North Shore Drive. The sign will be added to the existing sign and is of a similar type and style to align with the park’s aesthetic.
The Wisers have taken on maintenance of the park for the last 25 years and helped secure funding for the maintenance of the adjacent parking lot. In documents for the city council, Ron Wiser estimates the city has been saved around $450,000 over the years thanks to volunteer efforts to acquire and maintain the space.
Ellen Avery Park includes benches and views of boats as they go by.
