The South Haven Police Department is providing a temporary place for people to get out of the cold.
According to an updated notice from South Haven officials, the South Haven Area Emergency Services and Police Department lobby at 90 Blue Star Highway is open 24 hours a day as a warming location. The lobby has benches and access to a restroom, but officials stress there are no sleeping cots or additional amenities available.
City officials say another option is the Bronson Wellness Center lobby at 950 South Bailey Drive, which is operating as a warming center during normal business hours — 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. Officials clarified that the hospital lobby itself is not serving as a warming center.
Anyone in Allegan or Van Buren counties needing help with heating resources can call 2-1-1. In an emergency, people should call 9-1-1. The city says updates will be posted on its website and Facebook page.
