
Richard Allan Curtis, 86, of Grand Junction, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 17, 2026. He was born on July 24, 1939, in East Chicago, Indiana to his late parents, Eugene and June (Peterson) Curtis.
A Memorial Service is being planned for this summer; details will be announced at a later date.
On June 25, 1995, he married his wife, Mary (Parshall) Curtis. She survives along with their 5 children, Douglas (Lisa) Curtis, Jannette (Terry) Lapek, Cindy (Greg) Janega, Lee (Susie) Anderson, and Katherine (Dave) MacLeod. He was preceded by 2 daughters, Susan (Edward) De St Jean and Darla (Chris) Garcia. He has 10 grandchildren, Matt, Melissa, George, Audrey, Gregory, Andrea, Megan, Alex, Rylee, Erin, and 2 great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Jacob. Richard was 1 of 3 children, his brother, Glen (Eve) Curtis survives and his sister, Sandra Curtis preceded him in death.
Richard graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. This led him to work for Standard Oil, later becoming Amoco Oil and then British Petroleum. He was a member of the 1st Congregational Church of Grand Junction, Van Buren County Senior Services, and Van Buren County Red Cross where he served as treasurer. He was also, an active life-long member of the Boys Scouts of America, eventually serving as a District Commissioner.
