Dr. Klint Pleasant will officially start his position as the new president of Southwestern Michigan College in April.

SMC announced early this month its board of trustees offered the job to Pleasant, who is currently the senior vice president and special assistant to the president at Rochester Christian University in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The board plans to approve Pleasant’s contract next month.

Pleasant says to call him excited would be an understatement, adding he’s done plenty of research on SMC and Cass County and has been impressed with the community pride he’s found.

The SMC board and its search committee evaluated 128 applications received over a six-week period from a national search that ended in August, ultimately landing on Dr. Pleasant. Board Vice Chair Tracy D. Hertsel says Pleasant “brings a wealth of experience to SMC in academics, enrollment, management and strategy, fundraising and athletics, just to name a few.”

Pleasant, a lifetime Michigander, has worked in higher education for 28 years and has spent the last 20 years in administration.
