Berrien County is seeking grant funding for improvements at the History Center at Courthouse Square in Berrien Springs.

Speaking to the Berrien County Board of Commissioners Thursday, County Administrator Brian Dissette said Parks Director Jill Adams has presented an application for $50,000 from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources History Grant Program.

“The state of Michigan is making new grants available that are tied to the country’s anniversary,” Dissette said. “So the intent is to go after some funds to make — it would not be a huge project, but it would be a very nice upgrade.”

So, what’s planned?

What she’s targeting is essentially ADA accessible doors to ensure that anyone who wants to visit the property will have easy access.”

The county’s five-year parks plan states the need for repairs and renovations at the historic courthouse.

The county commission formally approved the grant application at Thursday’s meeting.
