Governor Gretchen Whitmer is calling 2025 a successful year, highlighting investments in education, infrastructure, and economic growth.

Despite the partisan delays in getting a budget approved this year, Whitmer in a year-end video, said the state continued investing in its children.

This year we made sure every 1.4 million of our public school students continue to receive free breakfast and lunch, ensuring they never have to learn on an empty stomach again,” Whitmer said. “Through the My Future Educator Scholarship, we’re making sure that our teachers have the support they need to be the best educators possible.”

Whitmer says the budget also enables her to continue fulfilling that promise to “fix the damn roads.”

This deal means more smooth, safe and reliable roads, both highway and local, that families count on every day. We also delivered major tax relief this year to help lower costs for Michiganders. Rolling back the retirement tax to put nearly a thousand bucks a year back in the pockets of half a million households.”

Whitmer said the state also expanded the Working Families Tax Credit and eliminated state taxes on Social Security, overtime, and tips.

The governor closed by saying Michigan in 2025 strengthened its national security and job base by securing a new fighter mission at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, met statewide housing goals, and attracted new investments in manufacturing and clean energy. She says the state’s growing economy and job creation show Michigan is moving forward and proving what’s possible.
