There are no injuries, but a home is a total loss following a fire in Benton Harbor Monday.
The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety says it responded to the scene in the area of Hastings and Colfax around noon. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming out of the two-story home.
The department says the fire was in the basement and due to the structure’s condition, crews were unable to enter. That, coupled with 30-plus mile an hour winds, hampered their attack. Firefighters withdrew and then battled the blaze defensively.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety was assisted at the scene by the Benton Township Fire Department, the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety, the Lincoln Township Fire Department, and Medic 1 Ambulance.
