The sign is officially up at the Benton Harbor Public Library, now renamed the Mamie L. Yarbrough Benton Harbor Public Library.

The city of Benton Harbor is honoring Berrien County Commissioner Mamie Yarbrough for her decades of service and leadership with the name change.

Yarbrough has served on the library board for 26 years, including more than ten as president, and has been a strong advocate for expanding access to technology, learning programs, and community resources. City leaders say her work helped transform the library into a hub for education, children’s programs, and lifelong learning.

Yarbrough says the honor reflects progress in recognizing Black leaders and women in the community.

A public dedication ceremony is scheduled for December 30 at 11:45 a.m. at the library.
