The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and Four Winds Casinos are helping families in need this Christmas with a donation of 1,000 holiday food boxes across Michigan and Indiana.

The Pokagons say each box includes a ham, vegetables, pantry staples, and a dessert to help families prepare a complete holiday meal. 200 of those boxes were distributed Tuesday at the Food Bank of Northern Indiana in South Bend, with Four Winds Casino team members on hand to help.

Additional recipient organizations include Decatur Human Services, Marcellus Community Food Pantry, Cooperating Ministries Methodist Church in Hartford, Caring Connection in Benton Harbor, Lawrence United Methodist Church, and Pokagon Band of Potawatomi citizens.

Tribal Council Chair Matt Weesaw says fighting food insecurity remains a top priority during the holidays, noting the program has provided more than 20,000 meals over the past decade. He says the Pokagon Band is proud to have made the donations a yearly tradition.
