A Van Buren County jury has found a man guilty of all 18 charges connected to a July 4 pipe-bomb standoff near Gobles.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department says deputies were investigating a report of a wanted fugitive staying in a camper in the 28,000 block of County Road 388 when 58-year-old Morgan Parish set off a pipe bomb inside. He later allegedly threw two more pipe bombs at SWAT team officers when they fired tear gas into the camper.

Parish was found guilty Thursday on charges that included assault with intent to murder, terrorism, possession of explosives, and assaulting a police officer.

The sheriff’s department says no officers were injured in the confrontation with Parish.

Van Buren County Sheriff Dan Abbott praised a multi-jurisdictional SWAT team for its restraint and professionalism when responding to the situation, calling the outcome a testament to their training and teamwork.
