The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department is welcoming the graduation of two new deputies from the Oakland Community College Basic Police Training academy on Friday.

The department says Deputies Connor Dye and William Hayward have completed the 19-week program that teaches physical fitness, defensive tactics, criminal law, firearms, emergency vehicle operation, and communications, among other things.

The academy provides the foundation for a career in law enforcement. The sheriff’s department says now that the deputies have graduated, they’ll continue to learn through its field training and in-service training programs.

Sheriff Chuck Heit congratulated the new graduates.
