The Berrien County Parks Department is honoring former Parks Director Brian Bailey with a plaque that’s going to be placed at Galien River County Park.
Berrien County Administrator Brian Dissette told commissioners Thursday a reception was held late last month at the New Buffalo Township Hall, just across from the park, for an unveiling of the plaque remembering Bailey, who died at the age of 57 in 2023.
“That will be posted at Galien River and it’ll be available for the public to see,” Dissette said. “If any of you are curious, we’ve put up some stories on Facebook about the plaque and about just Brian’s years of service.”
Galien River County Park was established during Bailey’s tenure, which stretched from 2008 to 2020. The plaque including an image of him will be mounted on the tree canopy walkway at the park. The walkway is currently closed for the winter.
The Berrien County Parks Department says because of Bailey’s vision, generations to come will walk shaded trails, play under open skies, and find peace in nature’s quiet spaces.
