South Haven is getting a boost to one of its busiest industrial roads with a state grant.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has awarded the city a Transportation Economic Development Fund grant to rebuild part of Kalamazoo Street.

The project will reconstruct about 1,100 feet of the road from the city limit north, improving access to the city’s industrial area, home to manufacturers, auto repair shops, and a steel fabricator. The upgrades will bring the street up to all-season standards, improving safety and reliability for workers and delivery traffic.

The Michigan Department of Transportation says the project totals $610,000, with the state covering up to $375,000 through the grant, and the city providing the remaining match.

MDOT says the funding helps strengthen local infrastructure while supporting jobs and economic growth.
