Michigan State Police from the Niles post will be collecting food, hygiene products, and toys to help those in need this holiday season with their annual Stuff a Blue Goose event on December 6.

MSP Lieutenant DuWayne Robinson tells us troopers will have marked SUVs stationed at the Walmart in Niles and the Meijer in Stevensville from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to take donations from shoppers.

Different organizations we’ve partnered with for years will be the recipients and then they’ll then redistribute to families that are in need,” Robinson said.

Among the recipients of the collected items will be the Mosaic Wonderland Toy Store, Cass County Toys for Tots, Helping Hands of Cass County, and Red Bud Area Ministries.

Robinson says this is the tenth year for Stuff a Blue Goose at the Niles post, and the community always comes through.

We never have a problem with people going the extra mile to go and pick out some items in the store, whatever that may be, be it food, such as canned goods, cooking oil, cereal, or household items such as shampoo, conditioner, dish soap. And because it is the holiday season, they’ll pick up a toy.”

Robinson says the donations stay local. And in case you’re wondering, he says if one patrol SUV fills up with donated items, they’ll just bring in more vehicles until the day is done.
