The City of South Haven has officially named Adam DeBoer its new police chief after seven months in the interim role.

DeBoer has spent more than 20 years with the department, starting out as an officer in 2004 and rising to sergeant in 2017. City Manager Kate Hosier says DeBoer has done “an incredible job,” strengthening relationships with residents and businesses while advancing community-policing efforts.

The city says as interim chief, DeBoer oversaw all operations, reinstated positions including the school resource officer, advanced two new officers through training, and helped a recruit graduate from the Grand Valley State University Police Academy. He also boosted professional development and represented the department at community events.

DeBoer says he’s honored to take on the role and looks forward to continuing efforts to keep neighborhoods safe and connected.
