50 new Michigan State Police troopers are headed to posts across the state after graduating Friday from the 149th Trooper Recruit School in Lansing, and four of them will soon report to the Paw Paw Post.
The MSP has assigned new troopers Kasey Carroll of Parma, Braden Ellis of Allegan, Julion McCray of Battle Creek, and Kyle Theodore of Hamilton to Paw Paw, where they’ll begin duty next week. Their arrival boosts staffing as the post continues to respond to growing public safety demands in Southwest Michigan.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer and MSP Director James Grady welcomed the 50 graduates during Friday’s ceremony, highlighting the importance of their 20 weeks of intensive training, which covered patrol work, investigations, ethics, firearms, emergency response, and modern policing practices.
The addition of these troopers brings the number of MSP troopers statewide to about 1,145. The department is continuing to recruit for its next recruit schools, set to begin in January 2026.
