New Heights CCDA reaches food program fundraising goal within a week

New Heights CCDA has already passed the goal in a fundraiser for its Community Food Network.

We reported last week that New Heights was seeking $10,000 to unlock a matching grant from the Frederick S. Upton Foundation to raise a total of $20,000. Director Chris Britton tells us the community came through in a big way.

I wasn’t even certain if we were going to be able to raise the $10 ,000 in total at all, and we did it in a week,” Britton said. “It was unbelievable.”

Britton says with the money raised, 20 additional households can be added to the Community Food Network, bringing its total to 90.

Considering the fundraiser still has the rest of the month to go, Britton has announced a new goal of an additional $8,000 to add even more families amid the SNAP disruptions.

So if we raised this additional $8 ,000 that will cover all 120 households through Thanksgiving and Christmas and beyond.”

The Community Food Network serves households in Benton Heights by providing them with food, but Britton says it does much more than that. It also connects them with wraparound services like help searching for a job or job training.

Anyone can make a donation to the newly extended fundraiser online. You can do so right here.
