With time change this weekend, health experts say it takes time to adjust

This weekend we fall back, and experts say it may take our brains a few extra days to catch up.

Dr. Ashhar Ali, a neurologist at Henry Ford Health, says while there is research that shows the risk of some health conditions increases with the time changes, it’s not something to be overly concerned about.

In terms of stroke, the risk is higher, but not something that we need to, it’s about counseling patients and just being more aware that if they start to notice symptoms, especially with the time change, that they should not ignore them and certainly seek medical attention,” Ali said. “With mood disorders as well or with sleep or circadian rhythm disorders like sleep-wake disorders, those are generally pretty limited symptoms.”

Ali adds that it takes your brain three to five days on average to adjust to the time change.

Remember to change your clocks on Sunday.
