The Twin Cities Area Transportation Authority is now reviewing proposals from firms seeking to take over the management of Benton Harbor’s Dial a Ride service.

Speaking to the TCATA Board of Trustees on Tuesday, authority Interim Director Todd Shurn said seven offers have come in to run Dial A Ride, six of them quality offers.

We do expect to have a vendor that we can begin contract negotiations with sometime, potentially, I think the date is…November 7th,” Shurn said.

Shurn said he’ll be speaking to trustees personally about each offer soon.

Meanwhile, Berrien County continues seeking a meeting with TCATA and the Michigan Department of Transportation about forming a regional transportation authority to replace TCATA. MDOT has indicated that’s what it wants. Shurn briefly mentioned that Tuesday.

They have some challenges with Berrien Bus, as you know. So they’re looking for some collaboration. And so we’re looking to see what we can do there.”

Berrien County’s transit committee, BCAT, has met with MDOT to talk about possible options for a transit authority. Benton Harbor representatives were not present, but the county is trying to arrange a meeting with all three concerned parties next month. T
