Dodgers 6, Blue Jays 5 – F/18 – Freeman’s homer in 18th lifts Dodgers over Blue Jays 6-5 in World Series classic
Freddie Freeman homered leading off the bottom of the 18th inning, Shohei Ohtani went deep twice in another record-setting performance and the Los Angeles Dodgers outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays 6-5 in Game 3 on Monday night to win a World Series classic. The defending champion Dodgers took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven matchup and still have a chance to win the title at home — something they haven’t done since 1963. Freeman connected off left-hander Brendon Little, sending a 406-foot drive to straightaway center field to finally end a game that lasted 6 hours, 39 minutes, and matched the longest by innings in postseason history.

Chiefs 28, Commanders 7 – Mahomes, Hunt lead Chiefs to dominant 28-7 win over Commanders
Patrick Mahomes threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns, and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Washington Commanders 28-7. The game was tied at halftime, but Mahomes was nearly perfect after the break. Kareem Hunt found the end zone twice for Kansas City. One of Mahomes’ TD passes was to Travis Kelce, giving him 83 scores to tie Priest Holmes for the Chiefs career record. The Chiefs have won four of five to move to 5-3. The Commanders fell to 1-4 on the road and 3-5 overall.

NFL – Questionable NFL officiating again takes the spotlight in Week 8
An erroneous whistle took a defensive touchdown away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. An early whistle cost the New York Giants a fumble recovery on a tush push. It was a rough Sunday for NFL officials. Giants coach Brian Daboll was apoplectic after Darius Slayton was penalized for offensive pass interference, negating a 68-yard TD catch in the fourth quarter of a 38-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Cornerback Quinyon Mitchell held Slayton’s jersey and arm on the play but Slayton got flagged in one of the most egregious blown calls of the season.

NFL – Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears encounter dead ends within the red zone
Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears continue to find the red zone to be a dead end. They failed to score touchdowns on two of their three drives inside the 20 in their 30-16 loss at Baltimore on Sunday. The Bears haven’t scored a touchdown on 11 of their last 16 trips inside the red zone and have dropped to 26th in red-zone touchdown percentage. Meanwhile, Williams’ inconsistent passing has led to issues moving the ball at times, and penalties continue to be a problem. Coach Ben Johnson simply called his team’s play “ugly.”

NBA – Gambling probe tests the resilience that helped Billups soar to the Hall of Fame
Chauncey Billups earned a spot in the Basketball Hall of Fame a year ago, recognizing his resilience and clutch play in a championship-winning NBA career. His ability to bounce back and make all the right moves is being put to a different test by a gambling scandal. Billups was one of more than 30 people arrested last week for what federal law enforcement officials described as their involvement in various illicit gambling activities. The coach was alleged to have participated in a conspiracy to fix high-stakes poker games with ties to three Mafia families. His attorney denied the allegations.

NBA – NBA starts review of policies after gambling-related arrests of Rozier, Billups
The NBA has started a review to protect the integrity of the game, players, and coaches following the arrests of Miami guard Terry Rozier and Portland coach Chauncey Billups. They were allegedly involved in gambling schemes. The league sent a memo to all teams, highlighting the need to reassess sports betting regulations. Nearly three dozen people, including Rozier and Billups, were arrested last week. The NBA is focusing on injury reports, which can be exploited by bettors. The league seeks to ensure players and coaches understand the risks of gambling and is seeking input from teams on how to proceed.
