South Haven Area Emergency Services (SHAES) officials report that two adult dogs and a litter of 19 nineteen-day-old mastiff puppies died in a fire that destroyed an outbuilding in Arlington Township in Van Buren County early Sunday.
SHAES reports Bangor Community Fire Department crews were dispatched to 50205 M-43 around 4:50 a.m., with firefighters from Columbia Township and South Haven Area Emergency Services providing assistance. The structure was fully engulfed when they arrived.
Authorities believe a heat lamp near straw caused the fire.
The incident remains under investigation.
