South Haven’s Robert “Bob” Copping is among the honorees set to be recognized by Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Community Service Commission at the upcoming 2025 Governor’s Service Awards.

The awards are intended to celebrate exceptional commitment to volunteerism, service, and philanthropy, and the governor’s office announced the latest recipients this week. The 93-year-old Copping will be honored with the Governor George Romney Lifetime Achievement Award for his decades of community service in South Haven and beyond.

A U.S. Army veteran and former international financial manager, Copping founded SHOUT for South Haven more than 30 years ago. It’s an organization devoted to enhancing the community through beautification projects, public art, and civic engagement. He also founded the South Haven Speaker Series, which brings a variety of interesting guest speakers to the community each year.

South Haven Mayor Annie Brown says Copping is “a role model who embodies education, excellence, and service.”

Copping will receive his honor at the Governor’s Service Awards on November 12 in East Lansing.
