The Benton Township Board of Trustees has voted to seek $6 million in bonds to pay for several sewer projects next year.
Treasurer Debbie Boothby tells the work will be in several places.
“We have three projects that we’re going to be using the bonding proceeds for,” Boothby said. “It’s going to be either repair or replace sewer lines along Highland Avenue, Martin Luther King Drive, Pine Street, and Territorial.”
Work will also be done along Eden Springs and Gaines Drive. Boothby said this is just to replace aging materials to provide better service to residents, and the township can achieve some efficiencies with the work because of another project going on next year.
“There’s a big project going on with MDOT, so we’re going to be working, it’s going to be coinciding with their project that they’re doing.”
MDOT is planning to reconstruct M-139 from the Fairplain Plaza going north into Benton Harbor next year.
Township trustees approved the sewer projects this week.
