Bangor Public Schools has celebrated the opening of its new outdoor fitness court.

District Superintendent Lynn Johnson tells us the new court at the high school will be available to everyone, and it came about with the help of some partners.

This was a partnership with Priority Health and the National Fitness Campaign, which is a workout center for students in the community,” Johnson said.

The outdoor court enables a user to rely on their own body weight to get a workout, with steps, bars, and gymnastic rings and helpful suggestions of exercises a person could try.

The thought behind this is here is a free gym membership. It’s outdoors that you can, from 14 years to infinity, let’s say, any age, any person can find a way to use this and improve their physical activity.”

The ribbon cutting for the new court was held Monday with guests on hand to offer giveaways of health and wellness items. High school students also served as ambassadors to demonstrate to those in attendance how they can use the court.

Johnson says everyone’s welcome to give it a try.
