82-year-old man dead after being struck by train in Lincoln Township

An 82-year-old man is dead after being struck by a train in Lincoln Township on Wednesday night.

The Lincoln Township Police Department says the crash happened around 9 p.m. at the St. Joseph Avenue and CSX railroad crossing near the Stevensville Meijer.

The department received a 911 call about a collision involving an Amtrak passenger train and a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers found the 82-year-old victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary findings indicate the victim died upon impact.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, and the circumstances around the crash remain under investigation.

The Lincoln Township Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Lincoln Township Fire Department and the St. Joseph Township Police Department. The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office also responded and is conducting a reconstruction of the crash.
