Terrance Ja’Shun Watts, affectionately known as “TJ”, “Bread”, “Hank” and “Cornbread” made his debut on August 26, 1993, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. No matter the relationship, Terrance was beloved by all. His heart, humor, and warmth touched those fortunate enough to know him. His deep connection with those he called “His Boys”, “My Guy” , or “My Brother”, was truly a one-of-a-kind type of bond.
Terrance is an alumnus of Dream Academy’s 2011 class. As he began to discover his career options after high school, he became interested in caretaking and found his passion as a Patient Care Technician where he helped patients with special needs. During his career, he shared a special bond with many of those he cared for. Terrance would often refer to these individuals as “mine”.
He had a natural ability to connect with people from all walks of life, and it wasn’t long before a stranger became a friend. Children gravitated towards him, elders respected him, and his peers trusted him. Terrance didn’t need to try very hard to be liked, he just had that kind of soul; the kind that made people feel safe, valued, and understood.
Terrance loved watching sports. Whether he was watching the game, talking stats, or placing a bet, he brought excitement and passion to the experience. He also enjoyed playing video games and engaging in late-night gaming sessions with friends and family that were often full of laughter, trash talk, and unforgettable memories.
Terrance made people feel at ease the moment he walked into a room. He was genuinely loving, fiercely loyal, and incredibly generous with his time and energy. Known for his big heart, Terrance always put others first, offering a listening ear, a helping hand, or a good laugh when it was needed most. Friends and family would often describe him as laid-back, humble, and unshakably calm, someone who never allowed the noise of the world to shake his peaceful spirit. He never asked for much and never sought the spotlight. Though Terrance left this world far too soon, the love and memories he gave us will continue to live on. His life was a quiet force of good, a steady presence in a chaotic world. He will never be forgotten.
Terrance was the cherished son of Terica Tyler (Watts), Ebony Shawn Bennette (preceded in death), and Cottrell Tyler. He shared a close bond with his sisters, Morgan Elaine Tyler and LaShawnda Bennett. He had special relationships with grandparents Jacqueline Golliday, James Golliday, and Bobbie Bennette. Terrance was the Great-grandson of Arlene Watts, Peggy Eddie, and Vernon Wade. He also leaves behind numerous aunts and uncles, including Leon B. Lloyd Jr., Tamara Lloyd, Latryce Golliday, Larry Bennett Jr, and Varien Bennett. His nieces and nephew, including Elin Allen. His cousins who served as brothers Dyone Lunzy, William Andrew Sims, Darius Peterson and Tyrice Carter, as well as countless other cousins, friends, and chosen family.
He was preceded in death by: Grandfathers: Joseph Larry Bennet Sr. and Leon B Lloyd Sr.; Great-Grandparents: W.C. Watts, Mary Lloyd, Jerome Eddie, and Lavern Thomas; Uncle Emmanuel Cliff Brown, and Aunt Cynthia Gooden.
TJ, we will forever miss your smile, humor, heart, and your presence.
