South Haven residents invited to offer input on Overton plans; new venue announced

South Haven residents are being invited to share their thoughts on plans for new affordable housing being developed at the former Overton site with some sessions planned for the next several weeks.

South Haven Assistant City Manager Michael Landis tells us the Dwelling Place out of Grand Rapids is planning to develop an apartment building, duplexes, and single-family homes on the 5.5-acre parcel at 229 Elkenburg Street. It now wants to hear from residents before it submits paperwork seeking support from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.

They’re going to have three different sessions,” Landis said. “So the first session, October 20, is they’re sitting down with community members and doing what they call asset mapping, listening to them, understanding what they like to see, like and want to hear, as well as they’re going to look at some initial site design and gather some feedback.”

Landis says each session will be held twice — once in the afternoon and once in the evening — to make it easier for everyone to attend.

There has been a change in venue from the original announcement, though. Landis says the sessions will be held at Resurrection Life/Emmanuel Community Church at 322 Elkenburg Street. They’ll be on October 20, November 3, and November 17. Everyone’s invited.

Session Times:

Afternoon Sessions: 12:00 – 1:30 P.M.

Evening Sessions: 5:30 – 7:00 P.M.

Dates and Topics:

October 20 – Community Asset Mapping and Design Feedback
