A Niles man has been arrested and charged in connection with racist graffiti found at a barbershop earlier this year.

The Niles Police Department says the graffiti was found on August 14 at In The Cut Barbershop on Sycamore Street in Niles. That kicked off a lengthy investigation by the department that has now led to the arrest of 63-year-old Timothy McDermott of Niles. He’s charged with a felony hate crime and misdemeanor malicious destruction of property for the incident.

McDermott was arraigned Thursday in Berrien County’s Fifth District Court in Niles.
