Michigan State Police are investigating a fatal tractor crash in Bertrand Township.
Troopers from the Niles post say a 78-year-old man lost control of his tractor Wednesday afternoon near U.S. 12 and Franklin Street, causing the vehicle to roll over. First responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, Buchanan Police Department, Bertrand Fire Department, and SMCAS Paramedics assisted at the scene.
State Police remind tractor operators to drive slowly, be aware of their vehicle’s center of gravity, use caution on slopes, stay alert to people, animals, and vehicles, and avoid ditches or embankments that could cause a rollover.
The investigation remains ongoing.
