A Life Lived for God Never Dies
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. ~Psalm 90:12~
Phillip and Vinnie Stewart added another baby girl to their large family on October 13, 1929 in Passicola, Missouri. She was named Juanita. Juanita was one of eleven girls and seven boys born to the Stewart union. Several of Juanita’s siblings passed away during her early childhood.
Juanita Stewart became a Christian in 1940 at the age of 11 years old. She was baptized and became a member of the Simmon Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Elder C. I. Washington. Juanita and her parents along with several of her sisters moved to Benton Harbor, Michigan in the early 1940s. At the age of 14 years old, Juanita joined Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Benton Harbor, Michigan under the leadership of Elder W.E. Ellis and faithfully served as a member for 20 years.
In 1946 the beautiful Juanita Stewart who sang in the choir caught the eye of the handsome Leonard Robinson, who served in several capacities as a member of Pilgrim Rest. The two were united in holy matrimony on May 7, 1947. Eight children were born to this union–5 sons and 3 daughters.
Juanita Robinson became a minister’s wife in 1958 when her husband was called into the ministry. She was upgraded to the role of pastor’s wife in 1963 when her husband Leonard opened the doors of Christian Light MBC of which he was the founder. During her 53 years at Christian Light, Juanita served as Church Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Mission Teacher, Usher, Announcer, and choir member. She was a strong supporter of Bible classes and prayer meetings. Juanita was known for speaking throughout the community on Women’s Day programs. She was especially known to be a prayer warrior, and she willingly mentored children and adults.
Juanita Robinson attended Benton Harbor High School and had a short career with Walgreens. She launched a successful 12-year career with Michigan Fruit Cannery and Musselman’s all while diligently raising her children and serving her church family. Two of her favorite pastimes were crocheting and playing checkers.
After living in Benton Harbor Michigan, for nearly 76 years, Juanita Robinson moved her residency to Southern California in May of 2016 after her husband of 68 years passed away. Juanita became content with her new life in Southern California. She experienced many new things for the first time and built memorable moments with her children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren. She became a member of Faithful Central Bible Church under the leadership of Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer. Juanita’s relationship with the Lord remained intact and unshakable in her new surroundings. She freely spoke about God’s goodness and encouraged others to lean and depend upon the Lord.
Juanita Robinson developed and dealt with a number of illnesses over the years. She was a humble soul who fought to live her life with dignity and grace. Late in the evening on Thursday, August 28, 2025, when she could no longer fight, God came and took His servant home to live with Him for eternity.
Mother Juanita Robinson leaves to cherish her memory six children: Arthur Lee (Sylvia), Darlene Fort, DaWanda Howard (Harley), Julian Dale (Yesenia), Aretha Marshalle, stepdaughter Barbara Roberson (Richard), one sister-Vinnie Pickett, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Juanita Robinson was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, three sons, seven brothers, and nine sisters.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Robbins Brothers Funeral Home, Benton Harbor.
