State Medical Executive: most people should still be able to get a COVID shot

Will you get a COVID vaccine? That has become a complicated question for many people.

The once-straightforward vaccine process has become muddled this year because of new federal guidance. The shots were approved for people who are 65 and older and those who are younger and have a health condition.

Chief Medical Executive for the state of Michigan, Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian, told us more.

We are not expecting any major barriers to people getting vaccines, but there may be some inconveniences in terms of where you have to go or some additional hoops you have to jump through to get those vaccines,” Bagdasarian said. “We’ll know more as those vaccines start hitting the shelves, as they start coming in, and as we continue having conversations with some of our partners.”

Bagdasarian says anyone in Michigan ages 6 months and up should be able to get the shot.

Doctors and researchers say most people have some immunity from either previous infections or vaccines, but an annual shot is still a good idea.
