The Maize and Blue Fund at St. Joseph Public Schools is planning a big event for student athletes next year.
District Board of Education President Kerry Wright tells us they’re organizing a sports summit, to be held in January, that will feature professional athletes of all kinds offering their wisdom to the students.
“We’re going to really focus on the whole student-athlete,” Wright said. “Nutrition, flexibility, strength, the mental part of the game, how to treat referees and officials. Really, it’s going to run the gamut.”
Wright said they’re going to hold the summit at St. Joseph High School with presentations on various topics in the classrooms. Athletes who attend will be able to choose which topics they’d like to hear about.
The summit is just one side of the Maize and Blue Fund’s mission of supporting all student athletic programs through fundraising.
“Our goal with the Maize and Blue Fund is to do what our St. Joe Public Schools Foundation is doing, and that is raising nearly a million dollars a year to deploy right back into our district every year. So that’s our ultimate goal.”
Wright says more details about the summit will be released as they become available, but right now, the fund is looking for volunteers who will talk to the students. Anyone interested should contact the Maize and Blue Fund, which can be done via MaizeAndBlueFund.com.
