The Berrien Community Foundation has announced $5,000 in grants for classroom projects in six school districts around the county, all selected by the foundation’s youth advisory committee, TEAM.
Teens Exhibiting Able Minds is made up of middle and high school students, and it meets monthly to review grants and participate in community service projects.
The $500 Golden Acorn Mini Grants announced this week are intended to fund imaginative classroom projects that inspire students, encourage creativity, and enhance learning. Among the recipients is a printmaking program at New Buffalo Elementary School. Students in Erin Ledyard’s art classes will explore their creativity through Gelli printmaking techniques, which allow students to place materials like leaves, stencils, or their own drawings onto an inked surface.
Other Golden Acorn Grants will support Unity Day at Coloma Junior High School and a wildlife watching program at Countryside Academy.
The BCF says allowing the TEAM members to review Golden Acorn grant applications gives them an opportunity to learn about generosity and philanthropy. The next grant application deadline is December 1.
